2021 TEAM

Members were cordially invited to attend a rather unique Drive In today at Hawkstone Park (and they did't even have to leave the comfort of their own home!)

Usually held on the first Sunday after the AGM, today's traditional Drive In has had to be 'physically' cancelled as a result of Covid-19 restrictions. We do hope however, to re-arrange this event at a later date when restrictions are lifted.

Determined not to let the virus derail plans for a Drive In, our 4 Captains decided to mark the occasion of the start of their golf year by having a modified Drive In today.

Captain Terry, Lady Captain Wendy, Seniors Captain Roger, Junior Captain Leo, all flanked by President Dave, sent in photos of themselves enjoying their day.

We wish our 2021 team all the best at the start of the new year, knowing they will drive forward and carry on the good work from our Centenary team.

Dave has a long association with Hawkstone Park which spans from the late sixties when he played at Hawkstone Park along with his parents and brother as a junior member. He was joined by his wife to be Cheryl in the late 70’s. Due to business and family pressures, he had a break from golf, re-joining in the late 90’s.

Over the years he has played socially, competitively, also represented the club in inter club matches and handicap league. He became Club Captain in 2003 and has served as Chair of Matches and Competitions several times.
Dave is also supported by his wife Cheryl, son James and recently new member grandson Freddie.

Dave is passionate about Hawkstone Park and when not on the golf course can be found on the dance floor.

Dave is joined by:
2021 Club Captain - Mr Terry Nutt
2021 Lady Captain - Mrs Wendy Simpson
2021 Seniors Captain - Mr Roger Toogood
2021 Junior Captain - Master Leo Robson

2019-2020 PRESIDENT - Dale Benbow

Dale is very very proud to have been elected to serve as President of the Club which has been her passion for very many years having joined 31 years ago - in 1988.
Dale has served the Club in numerous capacities both on and off the golf course. She has played in league and Mail on Sunday teams for which she was awarded her “Club Honours” in Ann Trevor’s year of Captaincy and has been chair of House & Social but her highlight, to date, was serving as millennium (2000!) Ladies’ Captain.

On the County front Dale is a past Captain of the Shropshire Society of Lady Golf Captains (SSLGC).

Dale is proud to be continuing the Benbow family’s close association with the Club as for many years Benbow Brothers have been responsible for tree surgery throughout the estate while her late brother in law Ray was Club Captain in 1981.

But she in most proud of her nephew, Tom Benbow, a past HPGC Junior Captain and Shropshire County Player. Tom, who now works for IMG, is a member at Royal Mid Surrey where, playing off scratch, he won their Club Championship in 2015 - and has played in the final ever since!
